The requirements of religion are all about control.  The opposite of that, is a personal relationship with Jesus.

The LDS Church does not allow members to examine any financial records.

LDS members are required to put their trust in the Church leaders and their decision not to disclose the Church’s finances.

Tithing is Essential for membership

Law of Tithing – Part 2

Play
Play

In Mormonism, tithing is part of the duties of sacrifice and consecration members are to follow.

Read more Teachings of President Brigham Young

“…for he that is tithed shall not be burned at his coming.”

Doctrine and Covenants, Section 64:23

“…those who gather unto the land of Zion shall be tithed of their surplus properties, and shall observe this law, OR they shall NOT be found worthy to abide among you.”

Doctrine and Covenants, Section 119:5

Fear is often used as a motivator to get Mormons to pay a full tithing.

We believe it is a law and commandment of God.

LDS.org Article

LDS members are called into tithing settlement at the end of the year to meet with their Bishop and be reminded to settle any unpaid tithes.

If tithing was a New Testament law, shouldn’t it be considered a gift rather than an obligation as the LDS Church teaches?

Nowhere in the New Testament is such giving regulated in the form of tithing.  God does not expect a specific amount or percentage.  Nowhere under the New Covenant does God threaten believers with the fires of judgment, if they fail to pay a tithe or even neglect to give money or offerings of any amount.  God is a generous, giving God, and his people SHOULD be generous, giving people.  Tithing is not a mark of true Christianity.
